About Powerball X's and O's in Tennessee

Tennessee Lottery players get in on the NFL-themed action too, with Powerball X's and O's going on sale September 8, 2026, ahead of a first drawing on September 13. It's one of two dozen state lotteries carrying the game at launch, and it comes with a $1 million starting jackpot that keeps rolling until somebody claims it. With no NFL franchise calling Tennessee home besides the Titans, don't be surprised if navy-blue shows up on more tickets across the state- though nothing about the draw favors any of the 32 teams in the league.

How to play Powerball X's and O's in Tennessee

Pick eight team logos from all 32 NFL franchises, either yourself or with a Quick Pick, and hand over $5 per play. Every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET, eight logos get drawn at random and you get different prizes depending on how many logos you manage to match. Prizes range from $7 for matching four teams, up to the massive jackpot for a perfect eight of eight. Whether the Titans go 3-14 or make a playoff run has zero bearing on which logos come up; the draw doesn't know or care how any team is playing that week.

Claiming prizes in Tennessee

The claim process in Tennessee is simple but differs depending on how much you win in the game. Prizes under $600 can be acquired straight at the retailer that sold the ticket or redeemed online. For physical tickets, be sure to sign the back. If you win more than $600, you must mail your signed ticket along with a completed claim form to Tennessee Lottery Headquarters in Nashville or bring it in person.

Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets

Tennessee treats a lottery ticket as a bearer instrument — meaning, legally, whoever physically holds the ticket is presumed to be the owner. If your ticket is stolen and someone else cashes it in before you notice, you generally have no recourse. If the ticket is torn, faded, or stained but the barcode and play data are still readable, it can usually still be claimed. The safest move with any ticket you're not ready to cash immediately is to keep it flat, and away from moisture, sunlight, and friction.

Taxes due on prizes in Tennessee

Tennessee thankfully doesn’t levy any state taxes. However, Federal taxes still apply. The Lottery is required to withhold 24% for federal taxes automatically on any prize over $5,000 in Tennessee, meaning that several of the prize tiers available in Powerball X’s and O’s are taxed.
