About Powerball X's and O's in Delaware
Powerball X's and O's is a new football-themed lottery game scheduled to make its debut in September 2026. Rather than choosing traditional lottery numbers, players get to build their entry around NFL teams. You might fill your ticket with longtime favorites, mix teams from across the league or leave the decisions to a random selection.
How to play Powerball X's and O's in Delaware
A Powerball X's and O's play costs $5. Instead of picking numbers, you select eight NFL teams from the league's 32 teams. The game uses NFL team logos as its play symbols, with winning combinations determined through the official lottery draw rather than by how the teams perform in real games. Scanning Powerball X's and O's tickets with the official app provides access to supplementary draws and giveaways.
Claiming prizes in Delaware
Prizes up to $599 can be claimed at any Delaware Lottery retailer, by mail, or at the Delaware Lottery Office. Prizes up to $2,500 can also be processed at select Retailer Claim Centers, while prizes of $5,001 or more must be claimed in person at the Lottery Office in Dover — bring photo ID and your Social Security card. Tickets remain valid for one year from the draw date.
Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets
Treat a potentially winning ticket like cash. Delaware Lottery tickets are bearer instruments, which means possession of a valid ticket is extremely important when claiming a prize. Signing the back of your ticket as soon as you buy it helps establish that you are its owner. A physical ticket must be presented to collect a prize — a photograph or copy of the ticket isn't enough. Tickets that are badly damaged, altered, incomplete or no longer readable can also be declared invalid. Store yours somewhere secure until you've checked the results and collected any winnings.
Taxes due on prizes in Delaware
Lottery winnings are taxable income, and Delaware Lottery prizes are subject to Delaware income tax. For prizes worth more than $5,000, the Delaware Lottery withholds 24% for federal taxes when the prize is claimed. The amount ultimately owed depends on the winner's individual tax circumstances, and non-Delaware residents may also have tax responsibilities in their home state. Speak with a qualified tax or financial professional before deciding what to do with big prizes.
