How to play Powerball X's and O's in New Jersey
To play Powerball X's and O's, mark 8/32 NFL teams on your play slip and pay $5 for your play. Scan your ticket with the official app once you get it, as every dollar spent counts as an entry in special supplementary games & draws. Once the winning teams are drawn on Sunday night, check your tickets – 4 matches are needed for a prize, and all 8 teams matched wins you the jackpot.
Claiming prizes in New Jersey
Prizes up to $599.99 can be claimed at any NJ Lottery retailer, while prizes from $600 to $10,000 can be claimed using the NJ Lottery App. Prizes above $600 can also be claimed by mail, or in-person at the NJ Lottery Claim Center in Trenton. All NJ Lottery prizes expire 1 year following the date of the draw, so don't leave it too long to claim.
Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets
If you've lost or destroyed your tickets, it's no longer possible to claim prizes using them. If you're concerned about your tickets being stolen, sign them, as this prevents anyone other than you from claiming with them. Damaged tickets that are still legible, or tickets that won't scan properly at the store, should be mailed to the NJ Lottery, as you may still be able to get a prize.
Taxes due on prizes in New Jersey
In New Jersey, the state lottery tax is 5% on prizes from $10,000 to $500,000, and 8% on anything greater than $500,000. A federal tax of 24% on all prizes over $5,000 is also applicable. Winners can choose to remain anonymous, even if they've won a big prize.
