How to play Powerball X's and O's in Nebraska
All you need to do to play Powerball X's and O's is pick eight NFL teams, and hope that four or more of your picks match the randomly-selected winning teams on the Sunday night draw. Just like a regular lottery! Tickets cost $5 per play, and each dollar you spend counts as an entry in supplementary second-chance prize draws, so remember to scan your tickets.
Claiming prizes in Nebraska
Prizes up to $500 can be claimed at any NE Lottery retailer, although some retailers reserve the right to limit the amount they pay out for security reasons. Tickets with prizes up to $19,999 can be claimed by mail, or at a regional claim center. Prizes over $20,000 can only be claimed at the NE Lottery building in Lincoln. If you win a Powerball X's and O's main game prize, you'll need to claim it within 180 days of the draw date, otherwise it'll expire.
Procedure for Lost and Damaged Tickets
If you've lost your Powerball X's and O's ticket, you won't be able to claim any prizes with it (unless you already scanned it for the supplementary game). If your ticket is damaged but still readable, you might be able to get your prize by mailing it to the NE Lottery, but this isn't guaranteed.
Taxes due on prizes in Nebraska
A federal tax is due on all NE Lottery prizes worth $600 or more (which isn't automatically withheld, and must be declared to the IRS), and the state checks for back taxes and child support for all prizes worth $500 or more. Prizes in excess of $5,000 automatically have taxes withheld, including a 3.5% state tax – on the lower end of the state lottery tax spectrum. Very big winners (over $250,000) can opt to remain anonymous, otherwise your name and hometown will be publicly available.
